I hear there are a few free tickets available for an event in London on Thursday morning where you can hear Tory Shadow Chancellor George Osborne's views on developments in the online world. The event will explore the implication of web-enabled mass collaboration. As I reported last year, Mr Osborne has an unusually good grasp of these matters, and has spoken knowledgably about Politics and Media in the Internet Age.
The event is organised by my friends at Policy Unplugged, who have teamed up with the RSA. Full details here. The supporting cast should be good to hear as well:
The event will be introduced by Matthew Taylor, the Chief Executive of the RSA and Chaired by Peter Kellner, the Chairman of You Gov . The conference will commence with a keynote presentation delivered by George Osborne MP, the Shadow Chancellor of the Exchequer, which will be responded to by Bryan Appleyard the author and journalist and Mick Fealty the creator of the award winning blog Slugger O’Toole. It will also feature further contributions and provocations from among others Anthony Lilley the MD of Magic Lantern, Tom Loosemore from the BBC, Adriana Cronin-Lukas, Partner in The Big Blog Company , Mark O’Neill the CIO at the DCMS and Ewan McIntosh the social media specialist and teacher. The event will start at 9am and run through until 12.00.
Last week Policy Unplugged ran a very successful - if less formal - event with NESTA on the theme of Uploading Innovation, and you can now see and hear reports of that from Lloyd Davis. That was an unconference, with short conversation-starters, and then lots of free-flowing chat and wine. I don't think it will be as easy to get a word in at the RSA, but sometimes it's good to just listen.
