Joe Saxton has announced a new round of seminars for UK community and voluntary organisations developing online systems, starting November 3. Joe and Caroline Pile put a lot of effort over the past two years into a Task Force aim at raising Government interest in support for nonprofits, but stepped down as chair last May - apparently frustrated at lack of progress with the Active Community Unit at the Home Office. It's good to see he is able to re-convene the Forum that has been a useful chance for organisations to learn from each other.
Joe posted this email to those interested in the Forum:
Free IT and Internet Seminars for voluntary and community organisations
Our next seminar is on Monday November 3rd and the speakers will be:
Vinay Khosla from Vivid Orange on:
Using the Internet as a tool to increase corporate and employee giving and participation
Employees and companies are increasingly keen on community and charity involvement. The Internet has huge potential to deliver benefits for charities and companies and this session will explore the barriers and the possibilities to building partnership online
Stuart Lunn from Infoworks on;
Content Management Systems (CMS): How they work, what they cost and the benefits they can deliver
People talk about CMS a lot, but this seminar will explore some of the more practical issues, including the costs, the pitfalls and integration with your other IT systems ˆ we will look at a range of approaches and different systems in use in the voluntary sector.
Peter Armstrong and Amanda Squires from OneWorld:
Empowering NGOs around the world to use the Internet OneWorld has worked with over 1500 NGOs in industrialised and developing countries to make the most of the Internet. Their experience has many lessons for community groups and charities in the UK using the Internet.
All the seminars will start around 1pm with a sandwich lunch and finish between 4-5pm.
The Forum is an opportunity both to network as well as listen to the individual speakers. Please feel free to send this email onto others. If you want to come please email joes@futurefoundation.net so we can get a rough idea of numbers for catering. Lunch will be served from 1pm and the talks will start shortly after.
The seminars are all at Horwath Clark Whitehill at 25 New St Square off New Fetter Lane. The nearest tubes are Chancery Lane, Blackfriars, Farringdon or City Thameslink. If you'd like a map go to http://www.multimap.com and type in the postcode EC4A 3LN
The Forums are an opportunity to network and hear three talks on subjects about IT and Internet issues highly relevant to voluntary and community organisastions. They are free and lunch is provided. At the end of the three talks there will be an opportunity for an open discussion that anybody wants to talk about
At previous seminars people who said they were coming never appeared so we've been left with lots of leftover food. Please make every effort to appear if you saying you're coming.
We are always on the look-out for people or organisations who would like to speak about the work they are doing in the IT or Internet arena. It could be a case study, a new product or a piece of research. If you'd like to give a talk please email me.
