BT this week press released news of a package bundling home broadband, home wireless networking, and access to the Openzone 'hot spots' set up in airports and elsewhere (if you have a wireless card in your laptop). I've already got BT broadband, but it took me the usual frustrating web search and three phones to various BT numbers to find the right sales team. No reference on the press release... do these guys want to sell anything? Anyway when I was eventually transferred to the right person he was helpful and knowledgable despite me being his first customer. The deal is you get three months free trial, then it is 20p a minute.
However, a little more research online provided hints of a 6 month free trial if you sign up before November 30 to a different subscription deal. Unfortunately there are no details of the free trial when you follow through to the buying info page and I can't reference the page generated by the search engine. (To find the free trial go to BT.com search the site for openzone and take the second result).
Calling the BT Broadband Traveller offer number recommended here - 0800 328 6724 - is little help because they don't know about the six month deal. It was a different team.....The new guy suggested filling in an online form.
The problem (for me anyway) is not so much what BT offers, or the support staff when I reach them, but finding the right place. There are so many different business units, brands and enquiry numbers it always seems to take half an hour. BT, BTOpenworld, BTOpenzone, BT Broadband, BT Yahoo Broadband, BT Business Broadband, BT Midnet, BT Together.....
And final gripe, why does the Broadband faults line always say things like "we have a problem with gateway 58..." as if you are supposed to know the number of your local piece of their network?
What's needed is a BT telephone directory ....
Very inspiring, thankyou! Good luck to you in the future. :)
